Semi-privacy fencing breaks up sightlines without sealing your yard off completely. Air moves through, light comes in, and styles like shadowbox look finished from both sides, which is why it is often called the good neighbor fence. We have installed plenty of these between neighbors who wave at each other over the fence line, and that is kind of the point.

A full privacy wall is not right for every yard. Semi-privacy styles screen the view at a glance while letting breezes through, which matters on Florida afternoons. The alternating board pattern of a shadowbox fence also means there is no bad side: your neighbor sees the same finished fence you do.
Less wind resistance is a practical bonus. Open patterns put less strain on posts in storms than solid panels do.
Wood shadowbox is the classic: boards alternate on either side of the rail for depth and airflow. Vinyl semi-privacy designs use spaced pickets or lattice-top panels to get the same effect with no painting and no rot.
